Guys,
in case you haven't heard of this yet, do check them out. This is a project of Chase Jarvis (a reknowned commercial photographer in Seattle) whose aim is to bring premium workshop classes to the online masses, for FREE.
i don't know why i haven't shared this in the past as i've already watched 2 days of Zack Arias (One-Light founder) and a day of David duChemin (Vision Photography proponent) and you'll really pick up a lot from these. Zack Arias is a highly regarded photographer of mine (as well as Chase) so when i heard news of their collaboration, it attracted me to it and i was able to watch Zack do a live commercial shoot. My respect for David duChemin came when Zack promoted his book "Vision Mongers". I eventually bought 2 of the 3 books duChemin released and was able to see a day of his workshop which is unlike any you'll encounter (emphasis is on vision/philosophy-generation as opposed to the technical aspects of photography). David duChemin's target aren't hobbyist or people new to photography. His target audience are people trying to build a profession out of photography.
ok, after promoting the 3 of my most respected photographers, it's time to tell you why i am promoting CreativeLIVE. If you browse thru the site's calendar you'll see a certain workshop series by Jasmine Star (google her) which culminates in a 10hr, 6hr, & 6hr workshop sessions at the end of the month. Her forte, wedding photography.
Do check them as you'll find good tips on your chosen vocation, that is in case you do "jump" (as David so aptly put it).

Filipinos to enjoy two long weekends in November

The public can look forward to two long weekends in November. Through Proclamation No. 1669, Malacañang has declared November 1 and 2 (Sunday and Monday) as special non-working holidays in observance of the All Saints Day and All Soul's Day, respectively. [See: Malacañang issues list of 2009 holidays] The second long weekend will be on November 27 and 28, which will fall on a Friday and a Saturday. The declaration was in connection with the Filipino Muslims' celebration of Eid al-Adha or Feast of Sacrifice. [See: Arroyo declares Nov. 27 and 28 as holidays] Eid al-Adha, known as the “Greater Eid, is the second major Islamic festival, which marks the end of the Haj (pilgrimage) for the millions of Muslims who make the trip to Makkah (Mecca) in Saudi Arabia each year. The other festival, Eid al-Fitr, marks the end of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.
Eid al-Adha, is in commemoration of Ibrahim's (Abraham's) willingness to sacrifice his son for Allah (God). It is celebrated by an estimated 1.6 billion Muslims all over the world, including the 10 million Muslim Filipinos in the country.
The declaration of these dates as national non-working holiday will allow more Filipino Muslims to go to Makkah in Saudi Arabia for a pilgrimage. November 30, the following Monday, was also declared as special non-working holiday in observance of Bonifacio Day. Aie Balagtas See, GMANews.TV

Pre-PMA 2009: Nikon has announced the launch of a 35mm F1.8 prime lens with autofocus compatible with the D40, D40X and D60. The AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F1.8 G is a completely new design for Nikon-mount DSLRs with APS-C sized sensors (or the ability to work in crop mode). The manufacturer suggested retail price is just €199/£199/$199, making it a modern alternative to the traditional 50mm lenses as used on 35mm film bodies.

Info from Dpreview
Yey for us DX users
A "REAL" 50mm prime lens equivalent. Price range converted to peso Almost 10k. Hope its cheaper when it reaches our shores

Major flaw revealed in Internet Explorer
Users urged to switch
Tue Dec 16, 2008 11:49AM EST
by: Christopher Null: The Working Guy
The major press outlets are abuzz this morning with news of a major new security flaw that affects all versions of Internet Explorer from IE5 to the latest beta of IE8. The attack has serious and far-reaching ramifications -- and they're not just theoretical attacks. In fact, the flaw is already in wide use as a tool to steal online game passwords, with some 10,000 websites infected with the code needed to take advantage of the hole in IE.
Virtually all security experts (as well as myself) are counseling users to switch to any other web browser -- none of the others are affected, including Firefox, Chrome, and Opera -- at least for the time being, though Microsoft has stubbornly said it "cannot recommend people switch due to this one flaw." Microsoft adds that it is working on a fix but has offered no ETA on when that might happen. Meanwhile it offers some suggestions for a temporary patch, including setting your Internet security zone settings to "high" and offering some complicated workarounds. (Some reports state, however, that the fixes do not actually work.)
Expedient patching or switching are essential. Security pros fear that the attack will soon spread beyond the theft of gaming passwords and into more criminal arenas, as the malicious code can be placed on any website and can be adapted to steal any password stored or entered using the browser. It's now down to the issue of time: Will Microsoft repair the problem and distribute a patch quickly enough to head off the tsunami of fraud that's about to hit or will it come too late to do any good?
Meanwhile, I'll reiterate my recommendation: Switch from Internet Explorer as soon as you can. You can always switch back once the threat is eliminated. (To clarify: You don't need to uninstall IE, just don't use it for the time being.)
